2020 in Review

2020. I’d say what a year, but what is the point? Sitting down to write this I have poured a little extra in my wine glass so forgive me if this starts to get a little wild somewhere in the middle. This year in many ways was one that forced me to pivot, both personally and professionally. To realize that my incessant need for control was, in fact, not bigger than a global pandemic. Raise your hand if back in March you thought the lockdown would last a week or two, they would get this thing under control (who are they, I don’t know?) and our lives would go back to normal. Ya, me too. But here we are, approaching almost a year of Coronavirus and another lockdown. It has changed the way we are able to live our lives. It has changed the way we are able to interact with our friends, with our families. It has changed the way we are able to conduct business. Let’s be honest, it has changed everything. All of this change has definitely had a negative undertone, and do not get me wrong 2020 has been a bitch, excuse my french, but I think I would be doing myself a disservice if I didn’t acknowledge what a year of learning and growth it has been. A year of being forced to go WAY outside of my comfort zone and really delve into what is truly important in my life. It has not been easy but it certainly has been empowering.

Here are 20 of my favourite things about 2020 in no particular order except number one is number one (obviously) . . .

  1. Watson. Easy. Hands down the best thing to happen to 2020 is this cute, blob of a baby. I love him.

  2. Creating an online shop for my business that has in turn led to so much growth and opportunity.

  3. Spending so much time with my family. Yes at times it has felt like a lot, but wow, how lucky am I to have had the opportunity to love on my kiddos this much, and even Chris (don’t tell him).

  4. Reels. Come on, you love them too, right?

  5. Tiger King. It feels like a lifetime ago so probably time to cap off this year with a rewatch . . .

  6. Chris doing a Tiger King inspired video for Belle’s instagram - don’t worry reposting today.

  7. Love is Blind. Jessica. If you know, you know.

  8. Cleaning out our basement.

  9. Disney World! We were fortunate enough to go to Florida back in January, before the world stood still, and with some of our very best friends. What a highlight!

  10. Collaborating with Brunette the Label - AND MORE. TO. COME!

  11. Reality TV, all of it.

  12. JH the Brand (Jillian Harris) following Belle’s on insta. The lamest/cool thing to ever happen.

  13. Relinquishing control. It has been empowering realizing the world (well my world) isn’t going to crumble if I cannot control every little detail (shocking, I know).

  14. The Style Clinic. Hosting this event has given new life to so many exciting ideas for 2021. Epic shit to come, stay tuned.

  15. Sweatsuits becoming fashion. They are the only thing and I am here for it (duh).

  16. Beau’s love of dinosaurs. It is cute, like really cute, and I hope it is here to stay.

  17. Giving Chris a truly awful haircut during quarantine when he wasn’t being a nice client. Dumb and Dumber was a vibe in our household for a bit.

  18. Spending extra time with the pups.

  19. Patio date nights.

  20. This blog and the community I am creating around it. Love all y’all!

There are definitely a million other things I could list as highlights but that just goes to show that this year was not a complete let down. If you look hard enough you can always find the good bits.

Now one last thing for fun. What is the first thing you are going to do when the world goes back to normal? Mine is easy. TRAVEL. And by travel I mean book the cheapest all inclusive I can find. And by cheapest I mean the fanciest one Chris will let me get away with that has child friendly amenities, a beach bar, and an adjoining room to bring the nanny. And by that I mean my mother. Okay, enough. But seriously I need a beach vacation and you should definitely check in on me over the winter because I might not survive. Or send wine. Maybe a pina colada. I think that would help, a lot . . .

Above all I think a key take away from 2020 still is that a lot of people finally learned how to properly wash their hands. See you in 2021 babes. Remember to walk into the new year cautiously, we do not know what we are in for, but we’ve got this! Now please enjoy some of my favourite photo memories not before shared from one heck of a year!
