TREAT YO SELF
I received my summer Jilly Box in the mail this past week and although I was not going to force you to sit through a full blog post unboxing of it, I changed my mind. Just hear me out . . . Firstly, I needed to share how stinken adorable my son was going through the box with me. He did a spontaneous unboxing for the gram and it was just TOO CUTE not to share (shameless plug for that - go watch it - after you read this of course). Secondly, although I will absolutely be sharing all the cute items and showing you what I got (I feel like at least three of you want to know and that is good enough for me) I wanted to also use this opportunity to chat about the past year and what you have done to #treatyoself. Right now, especially if you are living in Ontario, it is absolutely NECESSARY.
Honestly I feel a little guilty every time I purchase something that is just for me . . . any other moms feel that way? Thought so. It feels almost wrong to be getting something purely for yourself, doesn’t it? BUT over the past year I have learned that bringing myself little bits of joy, even if they are in the form of “gifts” is so essential for my sanity. I am sure that sounds quite selfish and materialist to some but being able to have something tangible to look forward to in a world of absolute chaos, and quite often absolute misery, feels right. It feels necessary. Perhaps online shopping has become a teeny, tiny, bad habit, but I think it has given a lot of us an escape and a form of self care when there really is nothing else to grasp at. Certainly we are seeing a faint light at the end of this long, dark, tunnel but I am going to say I have found the value (literally and figuratively) in allowing myself to have a few packages show up here or there. Why am I sitting here justifying my shopping issues? Because I can LOL. Truly I am so looking forward to being able to browse small shops, get my nails done, sit on a patio, really just get out of the house and go somewhere besides work, but for now this little bit of fun has brought me joy and I do not regret it.
Let’s get down to the goods. Jillian Harris’ boxes are highly sought after and a very select group of people are able to purchase a box each season if they are selected from the lottery system. Lucky for me this was my SECOND time being selected. Chris jumps up and down for joy at the fact I “won” the ability to spend money HA. ANYWHO, I am living for this box. It’s filled with amazing brands and thoughtfully selected summer goodies. For the few of you who are still reading this, here is what was inside . . .
Before even opening the box the packaging seriously makes you love it. From the box to each individual piece you can tell each detail is so carefully thought of.
Item #1 - Elucx - Zen bath & body oil - I have recently discovered body oils and I have to say I am absolutely loving them and this one is no exception!
Item #2 - Tok Beauty - Lash enhancing mascara - I have taken quite the break from makeup for much of the past year (or longer, yikes), but always love trying a new mascara and especially one that is going to promote growth. Lash extensions have been out of the picture for WAY too long so this will hopefully help.
Item #3 - Samara - Makeup Case - You can tell just by looking at this gorgeous bag that it is made to last. I cannot wait to use it while packing for our first staycation this summer. July hurry up and get here!
Item #4 - Sugarjoy - Candy box duo - Obviously this was Beau’s top pick from the box and I mean how the heck can you go wrong with sour watermelons and sour peach lips?? You simply cannot (the packaging was very sweet too!)
Item #5 - Monika Hibbs Home - Road Trip canvas bag - Hard to commit to a favourite item but I think this one might be mine. I am a sucker for a great tote and this one is giving me all the summer traveling vibes I am dreaming of (fingers crossed!)
Item #6 - Pura Botanicals - Overnight Watermelon Mask - Super excited for this one and going to give it a try tonight! It is supposed to be great for traveling to keep your skin fresh so, again, super looking forward to being allowed out into the world one day to give all these things a real test drive.
Item #7 - Jardines Domaine - Jilly Road Trip Dress - This was an item we were shown in advance as we got to select from two colour options. I opted for the wandering white, which I will likely regret but, my goodness, there is something so lovely about a white, summer dress. The fabric is super soft and the oversized vibe is absolutely welcome by this mama.
With the box there are also always options for add-ons and I couldn’t resist the Johnny Fly special Jilly edition pink shades. Pretty sure I am going to be rocking these dockside all summer long!
